GFA PRESIDENT WON'T SEEK RE-ELECTION

President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi has confirmed that, he will not be contesting the GFA Presidency in 2019.

Mr Nyantakyi who is a Banker, Lawyer, Football Administrator and Bank roller of Wa All Stars football club is set to pave way for a new person to take over from him as the new President of the football association after his term.

In an interview with Joy News TV, Nyantakyi confirmed not going for the Presidency again after his term.

"At the right time I will lay down my tools and move on."

"I won't seek Re-election when my term expires."

"I have no plans of retaining the seat."

"People see our league as poor due to the chance they have to watch other leagues."

"It is because we compare our league to the likes of EPL, Italian league, Bundesliga, Spanish league and the rest that's why we see our league to be poor."

"In the 70s and 80s there was no comparison so all you needed to do was to go and watch our league."

"Now we even compare pitches and other things to that of Europe."

Kwesi Nyantakyi became the president of Ghana Football Association on 30th December, 2005. Nyantakyi defeated two other candidates, Ade Coker and Kojo Bonsu. 

He is regarded as the most successful Ghana Football Association boss since the days of Ohene Djan and H.P Nyemitei.

Under his presidency, Ghana qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the first for the country. 


Ghana again qualified for the subsequent 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. 


The Ghana U-20 football team also won Africa's first and only U-20 World Cup also during his stewardship in 2009.
