Romance Scam: Mona Faiz Montrage Is Given A Year and a Day To Serve Her Time In Prison

Renowned Ghanaian socialite and "influencer," Mona Faiz Montrage, also known as Hajia 4Real, was found guilty of participating in romance fraud and was given a one-year and one-day prison sentence.

An indictment of six counts was brought against Mona, accusing her of involvement in multiple romance schemes and money laundering related to those schemes.

When Matthew Russell Lee of Inner City Press was present at the Southern District New York court, he learned that Mona's sentence guidelines ranged from 37 to 46 months. After taking a break, the judge issued a sentence of one year and one day, which would provide for good time credit.

Additionally, the United States agreed to waive her ICE detention, enabling her to leave the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) immediately after serving her sentence and travel directly to Ghana.

On November 10, 2022, MONA was taken into custody in the United Kingdom. On May 12, 2023, he was extradited from the country.

Mona pled guilty on February 21, 2024, acknowledging her involvement in the money laundering of several romantic frauds.

She entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to accept stolen money before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave, an offense that carries a five-year maximum prison sentence. Along with paying forfeiture of $2,164,758.41, MONA also committed to "make restitution in the same amount."

Montrage's plea deal, which states she won't challenge any sentence of 46 months or less, was submitted on February 27 by the US Attorney's Office.
